This Star Cinema-Octo Arts Films offering kicks Working Girls out of the top 5 and ranking 12th overall (including Hollywood films).

On the other hand, You To Me are Everything starring DIngdong Dantes and Marian Rivera still has not lost momentum collecting over P82 million in its 2 weeks of running, pushing Paano na Kaya (starring Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson) down to no. 4.

Miss You Like Crazy and Babe I Love You remain the top 2 highest grossing local films this year.

The question now is: Will a very gay Angelica Panganiban surpass Dongyan’s movie gross?

In My Life may be one of the only two local movies in Box Office Mojo‘s top 19 hit movies in the Philippines from September 16-20, 2009 but it sure gave all those Hollywood flicks a good shake. The Star Cinema movie, topbilled by Vilma Santos, John Lloyd Cruz and Luis Manzana, generated almost PhP64 million* in its first five days of running, making it the most watched movie in the country over that period.

Previous ruler Kimmy Dora stepped down a notch to the second place after collecting over PhP11.5 million in the box office in its third week. The Eugene Domingo-starrer’s total earnings for its 3 weeks of screening amounted to almost PhP66 million.

Kimmy Dora and All My Life were the only Filipino movies in the top 19.

The rest of the movies in the list are all foreign films with Whiteout, Final Destination: Death Trip 3D, and Sorority Row completing the top 5.

Kimmy Dora, Eugene Domingo’s first lead role, ruled the box office for the second straight week with over P20 million based on Box Office Mojo’s September 9-13 figures. Kimmy Dora now earned a  total of PhP50,582,638 in its first two weeks of showing.

Aside from Kimmy Dora, there were only two other local films that made it to the top 20 — And I Love You So and Tarot. And I Love You So, topbilled by Bea Alonzo, ruled the local silver screen chart previously and its total earnings now amount to more than P54 million in its 5 weeks of running. Note that this Star Cinema flick was not shown in SM Cinemas, which comprises a huge chunk of the total number of theaters in the country.

Marian Rivera-starrer Tarot made it to no. 16 with almost P500,000 for its third week. Box Office Mojo recorded Tarot’s total gross at about PhP18 million in its three weeks of showing.

The no. 2 spot belongs to Final Destination: Death Trip 3D with PhP6.7 million, a 17.20% drop from last week’s PhP18.6 million.

You Changed My Life remains the highest-grossing Pinoy movie this year with more than PhP225 million, followed by BFF (Best Friends Forever), T2, Love Me Again, and When I Met You.

The local cinema, like always, got a beating from Hollywood blockbusters in August 19-23, 2009 based on Box Office Mojo Philippines.

Pixar’s newest animated flick Up emerged the most successful over that weekend collecting more than PhP46 million (using US$1=PhP48.5 conversion). Up was followed by action franchise G. I. Joe with almost PhP22 million. Star Cinema’s offering And I Love You So closed the top 3 with more than PhP10 million, with its total gross amounting to more than PhP36 million as of August 23.

And I Love You So‘s gross may still be a huge amount but it is low relative to other Star Cinema movies. The recent friction between the movie outfit and SM Cinemas can be blamed for this. The issue led to fewer theaters screening the movie. SM Cinemas accounts for a huge chunk in the total number of movie houses in the country.

However, the Sam Milby-Bea Alonzo starrer topped the local box-office chart followed by LOL (Love on Line) with more than P10 million and OMG (Oh My Girl) which collected only PhP200,000 over that weekend but adding to its total, close to PhP22 million.

Box Office Mojo tracks box office revenue in a systematic way and creates an overall weekend chart, combining all box office returns from around the world. Box Office Mojo has not released figures for September. Please watch out for that.

‘Harry Potter 6′ Opens With P104.77-M, Boosting Franchise as Biggest as Ever!

“The Half-Blood Prince” is the full-fledged king of Philippine box-office! The sixth installment of the “Harry Potter” saga rewrote the record books, posting a royal P104.77-million nationwide four-day opening weekend (July 16-19) in 310 screens. This was announced today by Francis Soliven, general manager of Warner Bros. Philippines, the film’s local distributor.

That figure represents the all-time biggest four-day opening weekend in Philippine history (beating 2007’s ‘Transformers’ at P103.87-million). “Prince” also broke the fastest time (four days) for a “Harry Potter” film to breach the P100-million milestone (outpacing 2007’s “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” which achieved the feat in five days).

The incredible opening of “Half-Blood Prince” now makes the “Harry Potter” saga the undisputed most successful franchise ever in local history, with an accumulated gross of a staggering P959-million (surpassing the “Spider-Man” franchise’s P910.32-million overall take).

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen zooms past the P300 million mark yesterday, July 8, making it the second most successful  film of all time in Philippine box office.

This is the second installment of the Transformers series. Revenge of the Fallen was released throughout the glibe last June 24, a coupe of years after the first film, which also became commercially successful, becoming the fourth largest movie during its time.

Hmmm. It seems like the ailing economy and the A H1N1 virus scare is no match to a wildly entertaining sci-fi movie. Do’t you agree?

Star Cinema’s Mothers’ Day offering BFF: Best Friends Forever, starring the Megastar Sharon Cuneta and the Comedy Queen Ai-ai Delas Alas, seems to be stuck at the third spot of the highest grossing movies in the Philippines for 2009. This is based on Box-Office Mojo.

You Changed My Life is still dominates the chart. However, things are expected to change with the impending release of Hollywood sequels Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
